Dr. Ama’s Story

Dr. Suzie AmaLike many health professionals who enter the field of healthcare after overcoming personal health challenges, I have a similar story. Many years ago, I found my health declining. I was struggling with overweight, chronic pain, pre-diabetes, and osteoporosis. It has been a journey of making dietary and lifestyle changes in small steps that included migrating to a whole food and nutrient dense diet, identifying and removing known toxic exposures, increasing physical activity, learning to better manage stress, and optimizing sleep. As I healed, a strong desire grew to help others feel their best, and I subsequently completed a Masters and Doctorate in nutrition and started my nutrition practice.
Healing is a journey for everyone, and it is never a linear path. It is circuitous, sometimes involves one step backward with two steps forward. Sometimes we are faced with stresses and demands that require that we put others first for a season. This was true for me when my father developed Alzheimer’s and a responsibility of his care management fell on my. Other loved ones faced serious health challenges. My husband passed away. My father passed away. I suffered losses and grieved. During this storm of life, I didn’t have the strength to take care of myself as I should have. But I gave myself grace. And I healed again.  Our circumstances are different, but we are all on a journey. I can help you heal, too.
